Dealing With the Coronavirus Threat

With South Carolina schools now closed, students who want to get their licenses are now at home.

In response to this we are adding an alternate training program that might suit students & parents better. We will refer to this as our Home Schooled Program (described below).

In order to qualify for your license, you have to attend an 8-hour class in person and complete 6 hours of driver training in our car. This is where our driving school really differs from our competitors.

We only train one student at a time! Nothing new – we have always done this. The student gets a full 6 hours of one-on-one training behind the wheel of the driving school car with our instructor.

Other schools drive for 4 hours with 4 students in the car, yet all students are credited with 6 hours of “behind the wheel” training. It’s your money, you decide who to give your money to.

Home Schooled Drivers Ed Program

Driving lessons – 6 hours for $300
Classroom training – 8 hours for $39
Total of $339, which is the same as our regular program

Our instructor will pick you up from home and drive with you for either

  1. Two 3-hour sessions at $150 each, for a total of 6 hours; or
  2. One 6-hour session for a total of $300

This takes care of the state requirement of 6 hours behind the wheel.

Training is one-on-one with our instructor, and our vehicle is completely wiped down inside before each lesson to reduce any potential exposure to the virus.

Please also bring your disinfecting wipes with you to further assist in keeping yourself as safe as possible.

Part 2

The next requirement is that you complete the 8-hour class. SCDMV does not accept online courses, so we don’t have that option available. However, you do not need to do the classroom portion now, you can hold off for a few weeks until you feel that any risk has lessened/reduced.

We hold classes every weekend in numerous locations. Just choose any class to attend as soon as you are ready. See our websites at 864driversed.com and 803driversed.com.

The issue we are going to face is that many students will hold off on doing any form of training until this virus is brought under control. Once that occurs, all driving schools and students will have wide-open classroom training, but the driver training portion will be swamped and it make take you several months to complete the process.

So by doing the driving training portion now, you can still avoid the classroom situation until you feel it is safe to attend. At that point, you will pay $39 at the class. Once you have completed the class – as long as you have help a permit for longer than 6 months – you will be able to take the road test and get your license without having to wait several more months to do the driver training portion of the course.
